MBARARA, UGANDA | THE BLACK EXAMINER– In a recent incident, a police officer from Rubindi Police Station in Mbarara District, identified as Benson Agaba, has been arrested by the authorities in Rwizi Region. The arrest comes after Agaba allegedly shot and killed a suspect, identified as Gerald Tubigarukwamu, who hailed from Akatoma village in Kashari North.
According to Samson Kasasira, the spokesperson for the Police in Rwizi Region, the incident took place yesterday when Agaba, accompanied by fellow officer Boaz Tumuhimbise and the Akatoma Village Chairperson, went to apprehend Tubigarukwamu. The suspect was facing accusations of making violent threats.
During the attempted arrest, Tubigarukwamu purportedly brandished a dangerous weapon, a panga, and began chasing one of the officers with the apparent intent to cause harm. In response to the perceived threat, Agaba discharged his firearm, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to the suspect’s head, leading to his immediate death.
As of now, Benson Agaba is being held in custody at Rubindi Police Station while the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
