The residents of Bunyangoni village in Bugoye Sub County, Kasese district, expressed their disappointment regarding the lackluster response from the local community after being asked by their subcounty leaders to manually spread murrum on a road in the area.
According to reports, the subcounty leadership had poured murrum at strategic locations along the Bugoye-Bunyangoni road but lacked the funds to hire machinery, hence requiring the assistance of the local community.
Mr. Stanley Ntama Thembo, the chairperson of the local council, stated that some community members were resistant to the proposal, considering it unnecessary. They questioned how the subcounty could initiate a development project that they were unable to finance themselves. Mr. Herizon Mulhaba informed our reporter that while the local community was initially excited to see the murrum heaps, they were disturbed by the plan to turn them into voluntary casual laborers for a project they believed should be funded externally.
The chairperson of the local council three, Mr. James Katalikawa, explained that the limited available resources led them to seek the community’s intervention in opening the road. He called for continuous support from the community for public programs that require additional resources.
