Two individuals have been detained by the Oyam Central Police Station on allegations of participating in voter bribery during the ongoing By-election for the Oyam North County Parliamentary representative.
According to a police statement released this morning by SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Police Spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, the arrests were made at approximately 6:00 am following a tip-off from local crime intelligence personnel.
“On the 6th of July 2023, at around 6:10 am, law enforcement officers deployed to ensure security in Otwal Sub-County intercepted Ocen Ronald, a 31-year-old resident of Minakulu Town Council, and Ogwal Robert, a 46-year-old resident of Kut Odongo Village, Amuku Gungu Parish, Otwal Sub-County,” stated SP Okema.
Upon conducting further investigations, it was discovered that Ogwal also holds the position of Chairperson of the UPC in Otwal Sub-County.
“After their arrest, a sum of 150,000= cash was seized from the suspects, along with a list containing the names of individuals believed to have already received money,” he added.

At present, the case is being investigated at the Oyam Central Police Station, awaiting the compilation of evidence for submission to the Residence State Attorney (RSA).
