A private guard in Kakumiro District, western Uganda, has been detained by the police after fatally stabbing a man he suspected was a thief.
The guard, Amos Bambe, worked at the Kabubwa primary school and was responsible for the tragic death of George Tugume, a 39-year-old resident of Kabubwa village
The deceased had lost his way and while trying to find his way home, mistakenly wandered 75 meters from the road to the school premises.
The guard, suspecting him to be a thief, picked up a knife and inflicted a fatal wound on the left side of his chest after which he fled the scene of the crime.
However, with the help of sniffer dogs, the suspect was later arrested and taken to Kakumiro CPS for further legal action.
The police have warned security personnel against taking the law into their own hands and have said that the accused will be arraigned in court for the murder charges.
This should set an example for watchmen who subvert security laws.
