Judith Nabakooba, the minister of land, has cautioned landowners against pressuring “bibanja” owners into coercive sharing agreements as they seek to reclaim their ownership. In the midst of a dispute involving residents of three villages in the Namayumba sub-county—Gayaza, Kanziro, and Busamba villages in the Wakiso district—who are being forced off their land, Nabakooba made the call. The locals notified the minister that several parties have made claims to the land’s ownership and have threatened to seize it. The area in question is around 2 miles square.
