Brigadier General Godfrey Kaweesa Kigozi, the Deputy Chief of Personnel and Administration of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), has emphasized the importance of senior officers who are approaching retirement in August to have a positive mindset and a well-thought-out retirement plan for their new life.
During an ongoing exercise at Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja cantonment, where 99 officers ranging from the rank of Major to Colonel are participating in documentation and sensitization, Brig Gen Kigozi shared this advice. The purpose of the pre-retirement exercise is to provide financial literacy and support to the retirees as they prepare for the transition into their post-military life.
Additionally, Cox Anguzu, the Commissioner of Human Resource at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, advised the retiring officers to exercise caution in their spending habits and avoid unnecessary expenses.
The documentation process for retiring officers from the rank of Brigadier to General will take place in Mbuya on Monday. A total of 110 UPDF officers are expected to retire on August 31, 2023.
