In Busongora county North, Kasese district, Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa, the Member of Parliament, has called for a swift investigation into the alleged beating to death of a 40-year-old man by prison wardens at Rwimi Government Prison in Bunyangabu district.
The deceased has been identified as Sunday Mulibondo, a resident of Nyaseke cell in Kitswamba town council, while three others suffered critical injuries.
According to the legislator, the deceased and the injured individuals were mistaken for thieves while they were renowned casual laborers in maize plantations in Rwimi. This unfortunate error resulted in the death of Mr. Malibondo.
Hon. Sowedi has taken action by sending a letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, urging them to thoroughly investigate the prison wardens responsible for the assault and death, and to pursue compensation for the affected families.
At present, the Bunyangabu RDC, Mr. Joshua Masereka, has stationed himself at Rwimi government prison, and he is expected to release a statement soon. May the deceased soul rest in Eternal Peace.
