The police in Mbarara have detained Bonny Asiimwe, aged 44 and Director of Embatura Drink Company, on charges of shooting and injuring a man in Kakooba, Mbarara.

According to reports, the incident occurred on 17th July 2023, around 23:30hrs at the Step-in bar along Kakoba Road in Mbarara City. Asiimwe allegedly used a pistol to shoot and wound Casbert Tukahirwa, a 24-year-old resident of Kakoba Central, Kakoba Division, for reasons that are yet to be determined.

Asiimwe, who also resides in Bwegyiragye Cell, Ward Four, Ishaka Town Council, Bushenyi District, remained at large until his arrest yesterday.

Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, has confirmed the arrest of Asiimwe and stated that police have retrieved documents relating to the acquisition of the firearm from the suspect. The firearm itself is yet to be recovered, and investigations into the motive behind the incident are ongoing.

Asiimwe is expected to face charges of attempted murder.
