Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwaana, a police officer who smashed opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye, has gained been charged and remanded over raping his house maid.
Bwaana who became infamous in 2011 for using a hammer to smash the windows of Besigye’s vehicle has been going through a tarbulent period since his act.
He was once reported to have gone mad after separating from his wife and later turned into a preacher. In2017, he was arrested on allegations of raping a female teenage complainant at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Directorate -CID.
Bwaana was last year promoted from Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP to Superintendent of Police -SP. His promotion celebrations have lasted for one year to he has been arraigned in court by the department of Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Trafficking in Persona.
SP Bwaana who has been serving under the Directorate of Crime Intelligence -DCI has been charged with trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation, at Buganda Road court.
“The suspect, who brought the 23 year old, female victim from Ntungamo District to work as a maid, allegedly coerced her into repeated acts of sex at his home in Bandwe-Nalumunye on the 25.07.2023,” Senior Commissioner of Police Fred Enanga the police spokesperson said.
Enanga said the suspect was arrested, investigated, and now charged to court. He added that more charges are pending retrieval of DNA results.
“The fact that the suspect is a sworn police officer with a duty to protect the public makes the case more egregious. His appearance in court shows our commitment to fight all persons who victimize vulnerable citizens, irrespective of their status,” Enanga said.
