Rubirizi District | The Black Examiner – More than 3,000 residents hailing from the Rubirizi District have been the recipients of 2,100 bee hives courtesy of the National Forestry Authority.
With a total expenditure of 2.1 billion shillings, this initiative has been orchestrated with the aim of curbing deforestation activities perpetuated by local populations.
In an inauguration event held in Buzenga yesterday, Charles Sabiti, the Regional Manager of the National Forestry Authority (NFA) for the Southwestern region of Uganda, expounded that the primary objective of this endeavor is to educate the community about enhancing ecological dynamics. He underscored that furnishing the community with bee hives serves the pivotal purpose of safeguarding and nurturing the wealth of natural resources and ensuring prudent forest administration.
Christine Mugenyi, vested with the role of Public Relations Manager at the NFA, elucidated that the donation encompassed not only the provision of 2,100 bee hives but also included supplementary equipment. Among the contributions were gum boots, bee brushes, bee wax, bee harvesting knives, protective gear, bee strainers, and honey pressers. These allocations were disseminated across in excess of 15 villages spanning three sub-counties within Rubirizi, namely Magambo, Ryeru, and Rutoto.
