3-Year-Old Child and Mother Killed in Hit-and-Run Traffic Accident

Kanungu District | The Black Examiner – A mother and child have been killed in a hit-and-run traffic accident as recorded by local authorities. The incident took place on Sunday, 6th August 2023, at approximately 05:00 PM, along Kihihi Kasese road near Kihihi primary school.

According to the official police report, the accident involved a motor vehicle with registration number UBN 790V, identified as a white-colored trailer. The trailer collided with a motorcyclist, leading to devastating consequences. A female adult passenger, along with her three-year-old child, died on the spot in the collision. The full particulars of the deceased child and the adult passenger have not yet been ascertained. Meanwhile, the rider of the motorcycle sustained severe injuries and was swiftly transported to Kigezi Community Medical Center for urgent medical attention.

Following the incident, the trailer driver did not stop to render aid or provide assistance. Instead, the driver fled the scene and sped off towards Nyamirama Rukungiri road. However, thanks to the prompt and coordinated efforts of the Nyamirama police, the trailer was eventually intercepted and impounded. It is currently parked at Nyamirama Police Station, pending an Inspection of Vehicles (IOV) examination. Moreover, the driver has been detained by law enforcement authorities.

The bodies of the deceased victims were taken to Kihihi Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem examination. Concurrently, ongoing investigations are underway to determine the likely cause of theis severe accident.

Local residents and authorities are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident, and the community is left in mourning for the lives lost. The authorities are urging anyone with relevant information about the accident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring that measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
